Dark Elf Tower

by Fredrik

Visitors often comment on the lack of Elvish buildings on the site, so here is a simple but effective Dark Elf tower from Fredrik.

Materials

Method

First I made the base. It's cut to shape from thick cardboard. On the base itself I glued a 10mm styrofoam piece cut to an odd circular shape, just a bit bigger than the cup itself. The cup is glued to the styrofoam upside down. After drying, the foam pieces representing rock were glued on and the base was covered in plaster to blend in the tower with the ground.

I made the tower door from more foam cut to shape. The door, frame and hatch are cardboard and the doorhandle is wire.

The ramparts are the top inch from another cup. Cut it high enough so it will look good when minis are standing behind it. The floor in the tower is a cardboard piece cut to shape and fitted inside the cut off section.

Notes

The hardest part was fitting the rock-parts to the tower and getting it to look good and not just like plaster. Don't use too much plaster at once, better to build it up in several layers. The painting was done all in black with a few cardboard-pieces that look like individual stones glued to the cup. Oh, yeah.. I almost forgot. Before painting I covered the whole cup except the ramparts, in plaster and sanded it smooth to look more like stone. This is a really cheap way to make a rather good looking tower. I wanted a slightly conical shape instead of cylindrical and the cup was perfect.
