Chemical Plant

by Salvatore
Chemical plant Salvatore has used junky source materials to good effect in this Necro-style chemical plant.

Salvatore explains: This is my first attempt at Necro-style terrain. I learned a lot from making this piece, and I plan to build an improved version of this soon. The large tank is a PVC pipe banded with card and 3mm doll eye rivets, which were painted metallic silver and drybrushed with rust. Look at the top of the large tank and see the green chemical within! I cut out a white card disc slightly larger than the diameter of the pipe. I carefully bent all the way around the edge of the disc to form a flange. Then I glued it inside the pipe about 1" from the top. I mixed Citadel 'putrid green' paint with some clear resin and poured the mixture into the pipe! I purposely introduced a lot of air bubbles into the resin by stirring it vigorously before pouring. The three smaller tanks are 1" wooden dowels joined by dowel piping (a drinking straw would have been easier to work with). The base and two platforms are 3/16" plywood. I covered the base and platforms with cross-stitch plastic to simulate industrial-type flooring. The flooring was painted black and drybrushed with rusty acrylic and silver. The corrugated metal fences were made from the inner core of cardboard. Instead of silver + rust I should have painted them black THEN drybrushed with silver + rust... I always learn something new with every piece...
