Wow, only four entries, but all were superlative. I enjoyed them all, and it was a hard decision to rank them. I am always loath to critique each one, but I will make this observation. When the original posts showed the projects concepts, I was very sceptical of Thumper's and Havre's amounting to anything, but in the end, I find they are my two favorites. As I said before, all are great works, and good luck to all.

The Rhino of Rottenness by nealcrankshaw

A rhino repurposed into a chaldron hits the criteria bullseye, like the rest of the entrants. I miss a note in the text explaining that the Rhino (which is a great build by the way) was built prior to the comp, but it is stated in you thread. Love the still and wooden bucket, and especially the goo and maggots. Sandbags are great too - a textbook example. The variaton of scatter adds realism and the paintjob is great.

Bridgehouse by havre

Needed some spelling help from Pendrake, but othervise happy with the text. The roofs could use a better paintjob bringing out the texture more. Got to test out lots of cast stuff here, and pleased with how it turned out at last. Thought for a time there that I would be a lone entrant, so good of you to join.

Container Outpost by Thumper

Very nice weathering of the containers. + points for using home made mould for the barrels. I'll take you word for it that there are crates in the white container. I like the fact that you brought up the greens a bit tompared to your prior pieces, and it was great to see them together.

Ork Satellite Dish by kerinst

Epic dish you got there. Do you receive Pat Sharp with it? Good idea to add floral wire and ram a toothpick up the middle. It adds that little extra to a great build. Whit the paint it ties in nicely with your orks. GW rocks!

Great Job! The patina and rust on the buckets, barrels and rhino are fantastic. Goo and Maggots finished it off nicely. I like the basing, very battlefield like. I do feel like the rhino could have used something ... maybe the beginnings of demonic possession?

Bridgehouse by havre

Another great entry! I like the various materials used for the dwellings. It adds to the feel of these being afterthoughts to the bridge. Love the greenery and the bridge fill. + points for home made moulds as well. Only criticism is that a couple corner seams of the brick home don't seem to fit um ... seamlessly.

Container Outpost by Thumper

Not bad for something that started out with little promise Smile I used some new materials; scenic grass and Realistic Water. I like my resin better than the realistic water for ... water, but the realistic water was nice for the wet area at the bottom of the trench. Will probably use it again for areas that just need to look a bit wet. Scenic grass looks nice, will take some getting use to to work with it. Weathering came out well on the white and yellow containers, something went wrong with the green (paint must have seeped into/under the salt). I would have liked to add some trash ... paper, cans, bottles if I had the time. I should have left off the "bases" when pouring the multi-unit molded barrels ... it brought them up a bit high messing with the scale. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Ork Satellite Dish by kerinst

Very cool build! ... and very Orky! Nice integration of parts. Paint could have used some washes ... looked a bit clean for Orks, but that's personal preference.

Great Competition. I'm sad that I couldn't participate.

The Rhino of Rottenness by nealcrankshaw
A clever idea done very rusty and classy. One of my favourites as it gets very close to the spirit of the competition. If had to to improve something I'd add some tufts of grass around the base and wash the sandbags one more time.

Bridgehouse by havre
A very stylish piece with a convincing overall look. I never would have had the idea for this. The old wood effect is great! If I had to improve something I'd give the bricks one more wash, but that is counting beans.

Container Outpost by Thumper
Swamp! What do you want more? Simple but effective piece which adds very nicely to the rest of moduls. I think using containers as buildings is not that much "mac-gyvery" as the other pieces. Using molds is always a benefit.

Ork Satellite Dish by kerinst
This is the most "mac-gyvery"-piece in this competition. When looking at GW orkish-style I think Mac Gyver must have had some orkish ancestors - or the other way round. Only the painting really turns this piece down for me. With all the blue I don't buy the overall look of an otherwise great piece. It looks more primed than painted. I understand, that your miniatures look that way, but still, there is something missing for me. What a pity.

Exactly what you would expect a rhino converted into a tank for gestating viral weapons to look like. There is a lot of great detail to this piece. I especially like the piping into the cab of the vehicle and the tipped barrel spilling ooze. The maggots really tie it in and paint job ties it all together.

Bridgehouse by havre

Love the use of a broken bridge as the beginning of dwellings. They look like small thieves dens and the fact that 2 of the 3 can only be accessed by underneath the bridge, presumably by boat, really pushes that idea.

Container Outpost by Thumper

Another interesting swamp piece, I find this to be a perfect piece for any militia group looking to hide out in the everglades. The knotted rope is for some odd reason my favorite little detail of this piece, although I would really love to see the trench part refortified with either a dirt mound or sandbags.

Ork Satellite Dish by kerinst

I had a lot of fun building this piece and was very surprised that it went from idea to finished build in under 2 hours, most of that time spent digging through bitz boxes. If I could just get over painting everything crisp and clean I would be unstoppable. Laughing

All of you did a very nice job.

@Ker: everything Orky is new once. If painting ever-thang Red makes it go faster --- what does blue paint do?? Do I want to know? Silenced

@Thumper you ought to do a series of "empty" swamp pieces. Little connecting plots of swamp land that could fill in between the pieces you have made so far.

That's the plan ... someone needs to have an "Open/Clear Terrain" competition Laughing ... I need about a dozen of them. But most people just have their regular playing mat that fills that job ... not me d'oh! .

... and with the Dark Angel Codex and new minis being released Dancing , it won't happen any time soon.

Andy has put a moratorium on official competitions for the time being. There is an unofficial one on Post-Apoc watchtowers in the WIP forum.

There is also currently the Hot Wire Foam Factory competition that is being done in conjunction with TG. I had considered it a couple of times myself but all I use my foam cutter for is straight cuts, I am not very adept with the tools.
